I use TY Oil on all my dry-turned utilitarian bowls, boxes, platters, cairn sculptures, etc. It has terrific wood fiber filling properties, dries relatively quickly for an organic oil, and leaves a warm matte glow. The only thing I don’t use organic oils on are green/wet wood as in my natural edge winged art vases or super punky wood. TY Oil is appropriate for applications on food-related fixtures and accessories, around toddlers and children, and on their toys and furniture.
This natural finish is hardly new. Innovating from recipes originating in the 1800s, Tarik Yousef, an engineer turned master-furniture-maker, meticulously researched and tested these oils using cutting edge methods drawn from modern chemistry (and with some help from his microbiologist Dad). Zero-VOC content, no metallic driers (many oils have these hidden in them), no thinners or solvents.
INSTRUCTIONS: Apply liberally to finely-sanded wood, and use a small 2" square cotton cloth (old t-shirt) to move the oil around thoroughly. Once saturated, wait 10-15 minutes then wipe off any excess and buff dry with clean cloth or paper towel. Some woods dry a little quicker than others.
